17. Vila Margittay

Margittay Villa
1930’ Bulevardul Dacia 71

A volume composed with great ability, the villa at number 71 is one of the most carefully studied of Jean MONDA’s works. The main facade is dominated by a vertical volume emphasized by a series of concrete blades, arranged and rhythmed along its’ entire height. Although this is obviously the defining element for the personality of the villa, the architect balanced the composition with the horizontality of the window registers, of the balconies and of the grooved base. The Modern influences like the continuous window registers (instead of the window band) and the corner windows (even though they have a corner pillar) lend the building present times atmosphere. The rest of the language is the same high quality austere Art Deco, that Jean MONDA practiced on most of the buildings signed by him.
Also remarkable are the quality and coherence of the Art Deco metal work, designed by MONDA for this building: the fence, the garage doors and the balcony railings.
